…With the rise of free or lower-cost entertainment on the internet, traditional cable providers are losing subscribers. The shrinkage has led cable carriers to balk at the high prices for programming sought by sports networks. “If every team had its druthers, being able to control their own content is probably the holy grail … but then you also get into a different set of pitfalls,” said sports sponsorship veteran Dany Berghoff, principal in the sport leadership practice of RSR Partners, an executive search firm.
