E. Thames Fulton

Managing Director

My Role at RSR Partners

I am a senior member of the firm’s Board Recruiting Practice. I also support our Chief Executive Officers and Industrial Technology and Innovation Practices.

How I Deliver Impact

I bring perspective and insight on complex governance, succession, leadership, and talent issues. I believe that it is critical to invest time and effort with clients to learn the people, culture, strategy, and challenges facing the organization. I communicate regularly with clients, provide my complete commitment to their success, and have a sustained track record of quality results. I challenge conventional thinking and seek creative solutions where appropriate. I stay abreast of trends, issues, and best practices in corporate governance, and network relentlessly in the community of directors and potential directors. I am persistent on behalf of my clients and outcome oriented. I earn the trust and confidence of CEOs, lead directors, committee chairs, and other directors through my committed effort and results provided to my clients.

Expertise I Bring to the Firm’s Clients

I have more than 17 years of experience executing board search and governance-based consulting engagements. My search practice spans a wide variety of sectors including industrial manufacturing, consumer goods, retail, and financial services. My clients include Fortune 500, mid-cap, and small-cap corporations, as well private family-owned enterprises. Prior to joining RSR Partners, I built and led a successful national boutique board practice for a smaller firm. Before that, I worked for 11 years with two global recruiting firms, Heidrick & Struggles and Russell Reynolds Associates. My entire course of my career in executive recruiting has been focused on corporate governance consulting, non-executive director searches, and CEO succession.

My earlier career includes experience as a research analyst at Euromonitor International, a global market research firm, and as a project manager at Mitternight Boiler Works, a manufacturer of ASME pressure vessels, distillation columns, and heat exchangers for the chemical and petroleum industries. I also served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Senegal, implementing agro-forestry and natural resources management projects.

I earned my bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Georgetown University and an MBA from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.

Life Outside of RSR Partners

My wife Mary and I, along with our four children, live in Geneva, Illinois. Mary and I met when we were both serving in the Peace Corps. I am centered on my family and enjoy spending as much time with them as I can. My other pursuits include bass fishing, bird hunting, cooking, and gardening.
