Thomas L. McLane joined RSR Partners (formerly The Directorship Search Group) as Managing Director in 1998. Recent assignments include board compensation studies, assessment of corporate boards and audit committees and director searches. He also conducts senior level executive searches in a broad array of industries as well as in the not-for-profit sector. Mr. McLane has been featured on the PBS Morning Business Report, Business Unusual on CNNfn-TV, In Focus on Bloomberg TV, interviewed for The CBS Evening News, and quoted by The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, search-consult Magazine, CIO Insight, Corporate Secretary Magazine, Corporate Board Member, Bloomberg, Reuters, Associated Press, and European Business among others.

Prior to joining RSR Partners, Mr. McLane was a Managing Director with Russell Reynolds Associates, the international executive recruiting firm. He joined the firm as Vice President in the New York City office in 1978. At Russell Reynolds Associates, he conducted senior management and director assignments for industrial and natural resources clients, focusing on forest products and packaging companies. Mr. McLane managed the Stamford, Connecticut, office from 1979 to 1992 at which time he returned to New York City headquarters and worked with client companies in the US, Europe, Russia, and South Africa.

Mr. McLane began his business career with Westvaco Corporation (now MeadWestvaco) in New York City, a $3.8 billion NYSE company producing paper, packaging, and chemicals. He held a number of senior marketing and general management positions there, including General Sales and Marketing Manager of the Container Division, President of Westvaco Worldwide Corporation, an international sales and marketing subsidiary doing business in 55 countries, and President and Director of Westvaco Development Corporation.

Mr. McLane earned his B.A. degree from Yale College and completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. He was an officer in the U.S. Air Force, 1955-57, and retired from the USAF Reserves in 1963 with the rank of Captain.

A lifelong resident of New Canaan, Connecticut, where he resides with his wife, Judy, Mr. McLane is active in civic and community affairs. He has served as a Director of the Stamford (Connecticut) World Affairs Forum, President of the New Canaan Community Foundation, Vice President of United Way of New Canaan, and Vice President of the New Canaan Inn. He has been a Governor of the Country Club of New Canaan and the Norwalk Yacht Club. Mr. McLane served as President of his Yale class. He is a Trustee of the Seamen’s Church Institute of New York and New Jersey and of the New Canaan Country School.
