A Managing Director with the firm, Timothy O’Brien has over 20 years of experience in the executive search profession, serving a wide variety of nationally- and internationally-recognized industrial and consumer products manufacturing companies, from multibillion-dollar market leaders, through medium- and small-size privately held companies, to venture capital backed startups. He has conducted searches for CEOs, and all C-suite officers, covering the full waterfront of functional disciplines, as well as sector, group, and division-level general managers.
Prior to joining RSR Partners, Mr. O’Brien was a Partner with Heidrick & Struggles where he was a member of the firm’s Industrial and Chief Human Resources Officers practices. Earlier, he established, built, and managed his own executive search firm, known as O’Brien & Company. He began his career in executive search with Russell Reynolds Associates in 1983 where he was an Executive Director.
Mr. O’Brien has extensive experience conducting searches for both process and discrete manufacturers, including capital equipment, industrial OEM products industries, fabricated structures, metals, chemicals and coatings, polymers, engineered materials of a wide variety, and consumer products, both durable and consumable. He has conducted searches for presidents and top leaders, covering all functional disciplines, as well as sector, group and division level general managers.
Examples of his recent work include President of the leading manufacturer of cast bronze products for architectural components and memorialization industries; Director of Operations for the world’s largest builder of diesel-electric locomotives; Chief Financial Officer for a leading business process outsourcing solution provider; Senior Vice President of Global Human Resources for one of the largest IP network and hosting providers in the world; Director of Executive Compensation for a well-known manufacturer of glass fiber and commercial and residential building material systems; Vice President of Procurement for a multi-billion, consumer products manufacturer; Vice President of Sales & Marketing for a venture capital-backed company which builds emergency vehicles and transit buses; Vice President of Information Services for a manufacturer of specialty steel; and Vice President of Environmental, Health & Safety for a leading producer of coated paper.
Mr. O’Brien has a B.A. degree from Case Western Reserve University. He serves as a board member of the Cuyahoga County Public Library Foundation Board, one of the largest and most respected public library systems in the United States, where he chairs the Board Effectiveness Committee. He has also served on the visiting committee for the School of Arts and Sciences at Case Western Reserve University.
