I am a core member of the firm’s Industrial Technology and Innovation Practice driving execution across a broad range of senior leadership roles for clients ranging from start-ups to Fortune 50 enterprises. Based in our firm’s Cleveland office, my engagements are typically continental in scope with additional experience in Asia and Europe.
How I Deliver Impact
Our clients retain us to recruit leaders who will deliver outstanding results. This means identifying and recruiting candidates who not only possess the requisite tools and experience, but also have the ability to thrive within our client’s cultural environment. Cultural mismatch is the source of most executive recruiting failures. That is why I invest significant time up front getting to know my clients. This means, where possible, visiting on-site with the client and meeting the senior leadership team to understand how they function as a team and what “fit” looks like.
Expertise I Bring to the Firm’s Clients
Executive search is my third career, and I have been in it for over a decade. I began my search career as a managing director in a boutique firm that focused on C-suite positions for private equity portfolio companies, mostly middle-market industrial companies. I was subsequently recruited to RSR Partners in 2013 as a principal in the rapidly growing Industrial Technology and Innovation Practice and the second member of the firm’s Cleveland office.
Although I learned search execution more recently, the expertise that I developed in my previous two careers laid the foundation for search success. My early career in strategy consulting with Booz & Company, a Booz spin-off, and subsequently my own firm, taught me how to recognize quickly great strategies, organizations, and individuals. My second career as an executive leading a $1 billion business unit within Progressive Insurance taught me the value of a well thought out strategy coupled with superior execution, which requires passion and the right people, in the right roles, with the right tools. My relationship with Progressive began as a strategy consulting engagement for a secondary $200 million business unit. Over seven years, we grew that business to the most profitable $2 billion insurance business in the industry and I had become an executive leading half of the business. The sum of those experiences underpins my ability to match talent to opportunity and to identify and attract passive candidates.
I have a bachelor of mathematics degree from the University of Waterloo in Southern Ontario and an MBA from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.
Life Outside RSR Partners
My wife, our rescue puppy, Hunter, and two formerly stray kitties, Titan and Socks, live in Aurora, Ohio. Our four children are grown and scattered across the continent. I am a voracious reader of fiction and avid cyclist when time permits.
