My Role at RSR Partners
I currently serve as the firm’s vice chairman and previously was the founder and chairman of Higdon Partners.
My role at RSR Partners is to create, nurture, and build relationships – relationships with members of the firm and relationships with clients. First, I enjoy serving as a supportive colleague and mentor to younger professionals within the firm. Second, and equally as important, I work continuously to build relationships with and serve our clients on important and impactful search assignments. I also view my role as providing strategic counsel and assistance to the firm’s leadership in the addition of outstanding people for our firm and in the establishment of new offices for RSR Partners.
How I Deliver Impact
I look forward to continuing to help expand our asset management client base and working on high profile search assignments. Our clients (in the asset management space) include mutual fund organizations, traditional money managers, hedge funds, private equity firms, sovereign wealth funds, endowments, foundations, family offices, and insurance companies.
Expertise I Bring to the Firm’s Clients
I spent the first 15 years of my search career with Russell Reynolds Associates, where I served as a member of the firm’s five-person Executive Committee and built and managed offices in Houston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Menlo Park. I have been blessed with a long and satisfying career, yet I constantly endeavor to look for ways to sharpen my skills and better serve clients. I believe I am most effective at the closing stages of a search, conducting insightful reference checks, managing the frequently delicate compensation negotiations, and bringing each search to a successful resolution. Closing searches is an art.
I was honored by my profession when awarded the Gardner Heidrick Award, the highest recognition given by the Association of Executive Search and Leadership Consultants (AESC) for distinguished service to the executive search industry. I was also recognized as one of the top 100 executive search professionals in the United States in the book Career Makers, published by Harper Collins.
Life Outside RSR Partners
My passion for executive search dominates my life in many ways, but not to the exclusion of my family interests. My wife and I attend many sporting events, as I have a love for competitive athletics. I especially enjoy watching my grandchildren’s athletic pursuits and encouraging them to develop as athletes, teammates, competitors, and as young adults.
I am actively involved in alumni affairs at Yale University, including having chaired my 25th and co-chaired my 50th reunions. I sit on the Board of the Yale Football Association (where I also served as president) and served on the Search Committees to recruit the last two Yale football coaches. I am also one of the three founders of the Ivy Football Association and serve on its Board.
Other outside interests include faith-based activities including service on the Boards of the Bowery Mission in New York City and the Greenwich Leadership Forum. Over the years, I have been extremely active in the leadership of the Stanwich Congregational Church as senior deacon, trustee, moderator, and chairman of the capital campaign.
I served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves for six years following graduation from Yale University. My career began by spending six years with Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company, serving individuals, families, and organizations in New York City.
I am especially grateful for my family, my colleagues and teammates, and for clients who allow me to serve them and to affect and influence their success and prosperity.
