Talal serves as head of the firm’s Risk Practice. Based in the firm’s New York office, he focuses on the rise in demand for recruiting talent to navigate new risk, regulatory, and compliance issues for clients, including those in insurance, investment banking, trading, and asset management.
Experience and Expertise
He joined the firm from J.P. Morgan, where he worked for fifteen years. Most recently, he served as an executive director in risk management in J.P. Morgan’s Commercial Bank. In this role, Talal was the head of the engineering and technical team, as part of the bank’s leading oil and gas finance lending business. In previous roles, in J.P. Morgan’s Investment Bank, he had the responsibility for credit structuring on numerous, complex commodity transactions and financings, including volumetric production and structured commodity hedges. Talal also served as a senior credit executive assessing and accepting credit default risk for a portfolio of energy and commodity clients, and as an energy investment banker. Talal also worked with leading global insurance companies to develop and implement a novel Basel capital compliant loan credit insurance program for use in the modern regulatory environment, establishing a new risk distribution channel. In addition to his work in finance and risk management, Talal has over eight years experience in academic research and teaching, within the field of the philosophical foundations of quantum mechanics and relativity theory. He has served as a post-doctoral research fellow at Harvard University, and on the teaching faculties of the London School of Economics and the American University of Beirut.
Outside RSR Partners
Talal earned his AB in Physics and History & Science from Harvard College, his MPhil in History and the Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge, and his PhD in the philosophical foundations of physics, also from Cambridge. He serves as a trustee of Gordon College, a research associate at the Centre for the Study of Natural and Social Science at the London School of Economics, and a director of Indian Harbor Yacht Club. Talal and his family live in West Harrison, New York.
